Tharfield Nursery SHED meeting - 18th February

24 Feb 2021

The SHED meeting at Tharfield Nursery drew members from all over the country and the shared lunch felt very much like a reunion for many who attended. The event was attended by around 55 people, and Bay of Plenty put on a spectacularly sunny day. Andrew Boylan and his team showed members through their well-kept nursery and it was a great opportunity for questions and sharing expertise.

Sarah Watson from People Management & Development peoplemad.co.nz gave a presentation on LEAN principles and practice, and what this means for businesses that implement it. Tharfield implemented LEAN in its nursery 18 months ago and it was great to hear about its experiences as it sought to sort, set in order, shine, standardise and sustain.

We then heard about the work NZ Plant Producers is doing, including workforce, science, innovation, signing the Government Industry Agreement on Biosecurity, and the industry transformation project 'GENERATION' which seeks funding from MPI to step up the capabilities of our sector over the next five years.
