Flexi-wage: Support for job seekers and employees

26 Apr 2023

Flexi-wage is a Work and Income initiative to help employers hire and upskill staff.

Flexi-wage provides a wage contribution (paid to the employer) and support while a new employee gets the skills they need for their new job.  It supports job seekers who are disadvantaged in the workforce, or at risk of being on a benefit long-term, or both. They don’t have to be on a benefit to be eligible.

A business can access Flexi-wage if:

  • the candidate and the business meets the eligibility criteria
  • the position is ongoing and will continue after the subsidy has finished
  • employers  pay at least minimum wage for the role
  • employers haven’t dismissed anyone to make the job available.
