On Monday 15th August the Lincoln Horticulture Society, with the help of Alice Schofield of NZPPI, Sarah Cobbold of HortNZ, and Brendan Herries of ANZ hosted a Fuelling the Horticulture Industry event at the Famous Grouse in Lincoln.
The event offered the opportunity for students to engage with industry professionals, gain a broad perspective of the future within the horticulture industry and learn about potential job opportunities.
There was an impressive turn out of students from Lincoln University and the panellists provided great insights into their careers, the wider horticulture industry, and tips for students at university. Panellists were Rico Mannall and Devin Westley from Southern Woods, Tom Ferguson from Wai-Ora Nursery, Maggie Peacock Co-Founder at Bayuble, Robert Lindsay from Cool Cucumbers and Courtney Chamberlain who works on her family flower farm in Hadstock.
The Lincoln University Horticulture Society aims to bring together all individuals who are passionate about horticulture, food, science, and plants to make connections and learn. It provides members with the ability to kickstart their interest and career in the horticultural industry and offers opportunities to go on regular weekend or day trips, an exchange with Massey University, industry guidance, mentorship, and monthly meetings.
Alice Schofield says: "it is important for NZPPI to have engagement with the Lincoln Horticulture Society to expose students to the plant production industry through events such as Fuelling the Horticulture Industry."
