Biosecurity Week is an annual initiative by the NZ Biosecurity Institute. It aims to raise awareness and highlight the efforts of those involved in protecting New Zealand from invasive species. The theme for 2024, Maintaining the Gains - Puritia te Aronga, emphasises the need for continued vigilance and innovative approaches in biosecurity. Key topics include wilding pines and kauri dieback.
Biosecurity Awareness Month in August is spearheaded by Biosecurity New Zealand. This initiative is part of the Biosecurity Business Pledge, aiming to engage businesses in biosecurity practices. NZPPI is a pledge member. Biosecurity Month seeks to encourage businesses to support biosecurity measures actively, ensuring their staff, customers, suppliers, and stakeholders understand the importance of good biosecurity practices.
Both initiatives complement each other.
