Preamble

The NZPPI Code of Ethics establishes the principles and standards that underpin professionalism, ethical behavior, respect for people’s livelihoods and compliance among NZPPI Members. It reflects our commitment to fostering trust, respect, and collaboration among members and stakeholders.

Purpose

  • Promotes ethical behavior and professionalism.
  • Ensures compliance with key legislation, including relevant parts of the Biosecurity Act, Plant Variety Rights Act, and the Employment Relations Act.
  • Supports respectful interactions and collaboration within the industry.

Principles

  • Members will act honestly and transparently in their business dealings.
  • All interactions with members, employees, stakeholders, and regulatory authorities will be conducted respectfully and professionally.
  • Adherence to relevant laws and regulations relevant to the plant production industry is expected.
  • Members must respect the privacy and confidentiality of others.
  • Members must respect gender and ethnic equality.


    Alignment with NZPPI Constitution

  • This Code supports Section 8.1, which covers membership cessation for actions detrimental to NZPPI or the industry.

    Responsibilities

  • Avoid dishonest practices, such as misrepresenting products or services.
  • Support fair competition and transparency within the industry.
  • Prevent harassment, discrimination, and exploitation of workers, volunteers and colleagues.
  • Maintain compliance with relevant parts of the Employment Relations Act, Biosecurity Act and Plant Variety Rights Act.

Enforcement

  1. This Code of Ethics is voluntary but failure to comply may result in NZPPI membership being revoked.
  2. Consequences will be decided by the NZPPI Board and may range from warnings to suspension or expulsion (per Constitution Section 8.1).
  3. Threshold for NZPPI to take action, such as revoking membership, is any offence that may result in prosecution, or that may bring the industry into disrepute.

Review and Updates

The Code will be reviewed periodically to ensure relevance and effectiveness, with input from members and stakeholders.
