Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment meeting with NZPPI

16 Nov 2020

The Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment, Simon Upton, and his advisers will make a Zoom call to NZPPI members this Thursday 19 November to talk about the management of pest plants in New Zealand. The PCE office provides independent advice to the government of the day on matters of the environment and is currently focusing on the management of invasive pest plants in the New Zealand environment.

NZPPI has already spoken with the PCE office about pest plant management in the nursery sector, including the role of the National Pest Plant Accord and Regional Pest Management Plans, and the management of the spread of weed species under the Plant Production Biosecurity Scheme.

It is an important opportunity to show our industry is professional and takes leadership in the management of pest plants which could potentially be spread through trade, as well as making recommendations about what is working and what could be done to improve the system.
