Gardening blossoms in Covid aftermath

20 May 2020
Retail garden centres are reporting they are ‘run off their feet’ with sales far exceeding normal for the time of year. Despite the loss of Easter and Mother’s Day trading, customers are determined to attend to their gardens with many other forms of entertainment either restricted or unavailable.

Comments from retailers, “it’s as busy as a spring weekend”, “exhausted we are so busy", bode well for our sector as one of the lucky ones likely to bounce back quickly from the Covid-19 pandemic.

The role of producers in the emerging boom is vital. The green pipeline re-stock of shelves and gardens has never been so important.

Go Gardening magazine and other channels are also important to ensure we press home the advantages of the gardening boom. Next issue will be 1st July. Producers wishing to advertise either in print or in our Go Gardening email newsletter to gardeners should contact Debbie Pascoe urgently on dpascoe@xtra.co.nz to discuss options.
