Auckland water restrictions bite

20 May 2020
Auckland Council and Watercare Services have implemented restrictions on water use across the Auckland region.

Just as our sector emerges from the worst of the Covid-19 restrictions, our Auckland members have now been hit by a new alert system, which restricts water use.

The restrictions will be applied to horticulture businesses using municipal water, which includes most garden retail in the city and many plant producers. The restrictions will be intensified unless there is significant rain to fill Auckland’s dams, which are currently just 44% full.

NZ Plant Producers is supporting members to implement measures that will enable them to continue to operate in the short term and is preparing to advocate for relief from further restrictions. Our sector is an efficient and small user of water and right now, Kiwis need plants.
