Vaccination risk assessments and workplace policy

24 Nov 2021

All of New Zealand will move to the traffic light settings at 11:59pm on Thursday 2 December 2021. Auckland will move into Red. Traffic light settings for the rest of New Zealand will be confirmed on 29 November but no areas will begin at Green. The Vaccine Pass is now available for vaccinated individuals along with a NZ Pass Verifier smartphone app for businesses.

Vaccination Risk Assessment

Employers can require that some work be done only by a vaccinated employee, if a risk assessment identifies this is necessary for work health and safety purposes. That may be the case where the nature of the work itself raises the risk of COVID-19 infection and transmission above the risk faced outside work.

Your focus in the risk assessment must be on the role – the work being done – rather than the individual performing the role. If you want your employees to be vaccinated for reasons other than work health and safety that is an employment matter. Advice on how to carry out a vaccination risk assessment is available on the Worksafe website.
