NGINZ’s conference inspired, challenged and informed …
… as delegates and members gathered in Wellington on 27 & 28 July 2016
At the 2016 NGINZ AGM, Members overwhelmingly supported the Association remodeling as New Zealand Plant Producers Incorporated (NZPPI).
This is our opportunity!
It’s our opportunity as plant producers, along with our industry partners, to now unite, shape and grow an industry body with an influential voice that delivers value to our businesses.
The new NZPPI model focuses on tackling the common challenges we face … new legislation, biosecurity challenges, a relentlessly consolidating business environment, radical new technologies, exciting growth opportunities for some with corresponding shortages of skilled staff, for others ever increasing demands from customers matched by ever decreasing margins, climate change, sustainability imperatives, health and safety reforms …
... delegates heard from Phil O'Reilly, ten years BusinessNZ CEO, on economic and political trends and just what it takes to influence public policy. Phil was followed by Waikato's Professor of Agribusiness, Jacqueline Rowarth, who spoke about people and education, and on Thursday night's Gala dinner, Rudd Kleinpaste challenged all to look after plant Earth and promote ecological diversity.
We also heard about and discussed solutions to better engage employees, change and pitfalls in employment law, workplace health and safety, the Plant Biosecurity Index, HSNO and just what plants are here, what's not, and how we know, the impact of emerging biosecurity ricks on our ability to import new plants, changes to the availability of nursery and garden chemicals and what to do if you are tangled up in an MPI biosecurity response to a new pest or the likes of fruitfly.
